Post New class idea called Blacksmith

I use to play a RPG game that had a Mystic Smith, not only did he/she forge armor and weapons, but also add magic to the armor and weapons. That and if needed he/she could also fight. So I thought way not for GW, I just change the name to Blacksmith and what the class can do.

Attributes:
Forge(primary): Increases metalwork, engaving, rune, etching, weaken armor & weapon support skills.
Weapon Mastery: Increases parry, block, evade, interruption base skills.
Fire Mastery: Increases ignite, and extinquish fire base skills.
Metal Mastery: Increases damage and effectiveness of metal base skills.

Forge Skills:
Cracked Armor: E:10 I C:1 I R:8
Target foe has an armor penalty of -20 for 2...20 seconds.

Armor Engaving: E:15 I C:2 I R:15
While you maintain this "Enchantment", target ally's armor get's a +30%, and player moves 15% slower.

Etched Blade: E:20 I C:1 I R:10
While you maintain this "Enchantment", target ally's sword does +20 damage.

Heavy Weight: E: 15 I C:3 I R:10
Up to three target foes move 25% slower for 8...24 seconds.

Anvil Slam: E:5 I C:1 R:8
When you use a Sledgehammer, target foe takes +30 damage and is knocked down for 2...16 seconds.

Weapon Mastery Skills:
Iron Cross: E:5 I C:1 I R:10
While you have duel hammers equipped, you can block a melee attack for 2..20 seconds.

Brass Knockles: E:10 I C:2 I R:10
You can parry a melee attack with your fist for 1...16 seconds.

Metal Sparks: E:10 I C:2 I R:10
When a you use duel hammers, target foe's action are interrupted, and foe is blind for 10...30 seconds seconds.

Fire Mastery Skills:
Fueling Hand: E:5 I C:1 I R:8
You or a target ally touch an foe, that foe burst into flames an takes 10 damage for each 1...16 seconds.

Wall of Fire: E:20 I C: 2 I R:15
You create a wall of fire for 10 seconds an all foes take 10..60 damage.

Burnout: E:10 I C:1 I R:10
When a foe uses a Fire Magic spell, that spell is interrupted, and can't be use for 1...18 seconds.

Meltbown: E:25 I C:2 I R: 8
Target foes weapon becomes heated, an foe takes 2...40 damage for 8 seconds.

Metal Mastery Skills:
Rust Cloud: E:5 I C:2 I R:10
A rust cloud forms around target foe & foes in that area are poined form 5...20 seconds, and thier armor is weaken -10%.

Steel Bars: E:15 I C:1 I R:8
Steel bars come out of the ground an trap target foe for 8...30 seconds.

The Blacksmith's armor can be 60-70. The slegehammer(s) can do the same damage as a Warrior's Hammer. An the dual hammers(two mini hammers) can do the same damage as a staff/wand, plus can be also a focus item.

Here's a pic from the RPG game for an idea of what a Mystic Smith. Sorry if it's not that great of an image. I don't have a scanner, so I used my webcam.

hmm.. I was about to go on lecturing how GW does not crafting... before I look at te skill more closely. Overall, not that bad, espcially the forge attribute. While a big hammer or dual wielding hammer is cool, don't really see the need of creating a new skill line for them. Punch on them seem a bit funny too.. and so is that Soul Primary. Would be better to change to some other name to reduce "missunderstandings". Need some more "hammering out" (pun intended)

I was going to say the same things... I was ready to say "GW does not need to become RuneScape (Boo! Hiss!)" But reading it over... that's actually a cool idea... original, definitely. It could use some work, but good ideas.

Thanks for the inputs, I'll do some more work on this class, maybe take out Soul. And also do some tweaks to same skills.

Edit:I changed some of the attributes and skills. I hope the new ones work better now.

Lot better. Very nice balance of skills. Forge and Metal Mastery, while sounded a bit like Earth magic and enchantments, is still very good. While fire and weapon mastery is not bad, does seem to make them too limiting. And Primary should have some bonuse to them as to off set what the class would lack.

If I can make suggestion, how about splitting the Armor Enchantment skill of the Foge into two attribute, one of the Metal (Warrior, Ass, Ranger?) and one of Cloth (mage class). This way, you will need a more customize built to better support. Smith, Crafter, Runemaster, Whitesmith? might be some other possible name to consider.
Of couse would also solve lots problem with it were a new class for a new race.

I'll try that, but later today...well after I get home from work. Maybe I'll put the Armor Enchantment in the Metal Mastery attribute. And an attribute fopr cloth, I never thought about that. Thanks.

Very good idea, as i am always for adding something that is not the norm. A Blacksmith is a good idea. The skills you are describing sounds like it would add more to the game, but doesnt the damage a effects caused by some of these spells seem excessive?

Other than that i like it!

First off, mesmers and elementalists have skills that do that kind of damage, so it isnt really new.

Second, the blacksmith needs a way to limit its forging skills or else the economy will bust.Everyone will try to get a blacksmith to make money and give it to other characters, so making money would be too hard because no one would want to buy the crafted weapons or armor when they could make them themselves.

That blacksmith is a godly character...it would pown all other chars combined.

(ie) backbacker 4 secs is current longest knockdown in game (backbreaker / gale)

+20 damage with each sword attack... look at mk 'strenght of honor' @ max smite it oges to +10 and cost -1 energy regen.

meltdown which cause 400 damage...isnt even AoE... Fire storm only does 290 max 10sec x 29 dam (highest)

__________________________________________________ ___________

I got an idea of a new char Called the "Grim Reaper"

Skill.... Genecide
Energy 5 Cast time 1s Recast -
All Foes within 50ft take 1000 shadow damage

Apocolypse
Energy 20 cast time 2s recast 30s
All Foes in current map region die

I like the idea, very creative. Bono brings a good point though this character would demolish all other characters.. hands down. I'm not sure if you considered armor, energy, energy regen. But if this character has 30-40 energy with a 3 energy regen, there would be no stopping it. Btw, The wall of fire, if like a trap or aoe, needs to go. Think about PvP, and the wall... (I dont wanna go against that :P) However, this character shows promise, with the supportive forge skills (the armor one especially) and the weapon skills, i would like to see more of both of these. I also think it might be neat to incorperate your "metal skills" with your inventory. To clarify steel and iron (just a thought, maybe a good one maybe not). Good job, this is constructive cricism, not meant to be taken as insulting. Overall, excellent character creation. One of the better ones ive seen.

I was skeptical when I began reading the thread but the way you have presented the profession isnt bad at all. I can envision a kind of support tank, like a mobile siege unit, in guild wars.

I did the math an meltdown only does 320 max dmg. But I do see your point.
Maybe meltbown can be changed to 2...20 damage for 8 seconds. Max dmg would be 160. Plus the skill can be AoE.

I like this idea, but I think some skills are over-powered.

For Example:
Anvil Slam, you could put your target down forever, imagine 8 of these who would just keep the enemy down and do dmg.

are poined
What is poined?? (sorry, I guess I have a lack of english )

And also, are these skills description in the attributes from 1-12 (like in-game), or are these from 1-16?
